"There are traditions that transcend centuries without losing their soul. The Swiss Guard of the King's Household belongs to this living heritage, where the memory of history meets the commitment of today.

For centuries, Swiss soldiers served the French sovereigns with a loyalty that earned them renown throughout Europe. Discipline, honor, and esprit de corps were the virtues upon which their reputation was built. Even today, these values inspire those who wish to revive this remarkable chapter of our history.

Our association brings together history and heritage enthusiasts eager to revive the world of the King's Military Household, and more specifically the Swiss Guards who formed one of its most prestigious corps. Beneath the faithfully reproduced uniform are today men of our time, animated by the same passion for history, the spirit of camaraderie and the taste for passing on knowledge.

We invite you to discover on this site the history of the Swiss Guards, the activities of our company and the spirit that animates those who have chosen to wear its colours."

WHO ARE WE ?

The Swiss Guards Regiment is a cultural association governed by the law of July 1, 1901, with its headquarters in Versailles. It brings together enthusiasts of history, heritage and military traditions who wish to revive, through the practice of historical reenactment, one of the most prestigious corps of the Military Household of the King of France: the Swiss Guards Regiment.

The association's mission is to promote, for cultural, historical, and educational purposes, the memory and missions of this elite unit in the service of the sovereigns of the Capetian Bourbon dynasty. It strives to accurately recreate the uniform, as well as the daily life, military exercises, and missions of the regiment as they were practiced in the 18th century.

REQUIREMENT

Our approach is based on a requirement of historical accuracy. Every activity carried out by the association relies on verified documentary sources – archives, iconography, objects and historiographical works – in order to recreate as faithfully as possible not only the equipment, but also the gestures and customs of the Swiss soldier in the service of the King.

The company primarily represented by the association is the first company (de Loys) of the fourth battalion (de Diesbach), as it existed on the eve of the French Revolution, between 1786 and 1792. This historical framework forms the basis of our reenactment work, both for the uniform and for the characters portrayed by the members.

Each member can portray a soldier who actually served in the regiment, using the lists of names preserved in the archives. This approach gives a face and a story to these men, and grounds the reenactment in authentic memory.

TRANSMISSION

Beyond the historical reenactment itself, the association pursues the objective of transmitting historical heritage.

In this capacity, it regularly organises or participates in various types of events:

  • historical reenactments;

  • extras work for television and cinema;

  • public demonstrations and educational activities;

  • historical lectures and presentations;

  • commemorations and cultural events in France and abroad.

These activities aim to make history accessible to the widest possible audience by offering a vivid and immersive approach to the eighteenth century.
